Enter in your tank's temperature and the fertilization date (when they first appeared on your shrimp's swimmerets) in the calculator below, then select "Calculate" to get the estimated hatching date. Please note this calculator is based on a linear equation derived from three data points (24C [75F], 28C [82F], 32C [90F]) in this research paper. Temperatures outside the studied ranges are more prone to minor errors as it is not clear how well the linear relationship holds up when extrapolated. The paper also focused on Neocaridina (like cherry shrimp). Caridina (like crystal reds) tend to hold their eggs slightly longer than this model calculates.
We are currently collecting data to improve the calculator. If you'd like to participate, please scroll down to the section "Become a Researcher" to learn how easily you can contribute to science!
If you would like to contribute to a citizen science project to improve our ability to estimate hatching time over a wider range of temperatures, then please consider recording and sharing data from your tank through our Google Survey! To participate, record the following:
The more responses we get, the better the tool will become for everyone! Thank you in advance if you choose to participate :)
